**Frankfort Independent Schools Announces Significant Wage Increase for School Bus Drivers**
Frankfort, KY - August 14, 2023 — Frankfort Independent Schools announces a substantial wage increase for its dedicated team of school bus drivers, effective immediately. The increase of $4 per hour reflects the board of education’s commitment to recognizing and valuing the crucial role that school bus drivers play in ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
With this generous raise, the FIS school bus drivers will see their efforts and dedication rewarded in a tangible and meaningful way. The decision to implement this wage increase was driven by the understanding of the vital role school bus drivers fulfill in the educational ecosystem. They are the first and last school staff members that students interact with daily, and their dedication and responsibility contribute significantly to the overall educational experience.

They are not just drivers; they are trusted mentors, reliable figures, and an essential part of the Frankfort Independent Schools family. This wage increase reflects our appreciation for their hard work and investment in the safety and well-being of our students," said Superintendent Sheri Satterly. “We need five drivers to run our routes efficiently. There is no alternate route to obtaining a CDL, which is required to drive a bus. You either have it or you don’t. You can either drive or you can’t. If we have five full-time drivers, we can provide all of the routes that we need.”
Board Chairperson, Jina Greathouse, said “It is a very competitive market for a position that requires a certain certification. The bus driver shortage is certainly not isolated to us. This is a good next step to try to fill those driver seats.”
