Dear Panther Families,
The winter season is upon us. School safety is our number one priority! Please review the following information in order to assist you in the event of inclement weather. The decision to close or delay school requires a multi-layered approach in which the Frankfort Independent Schools team collaborates with city personnel, county personnel, state officials, law enforcement officials, school bus drivers, and other school resource personnel.
Notification to Frankfort Independent School Families
In the event of delays or closings, FIS will make a decision before 6:00 AM. FIS school personnel will be on the roads and collaborate with the National Weather Service and the Emergency Management Team around 4 AM. We will send out communication via all news media outlets, social media, and One Call (Infinite Campus) if we cancel or go on delay. Otherwise, we will not communicate anything and proceed forward as if it were a normal day.
Full Day Cancellations
Full day cancellation for FIS – No school for all school locations. Furthermore, in most cases, all activities and athletics will be cancelled for the day.
*One Hour Delay Procedure
One hour delay – FIS will begin one hour later than your students’ normal school start time. Staff will report at normal times to their school location.
*Two Hour Delay Procedure
Two hour delay - FIS will begin two hours later than your students’ normal school start time. Staff will report at normal times to their school location.
Early Release Procedure
In some rare cases, when school is in session, an early release may be required due to inclement weather or anticipated inclement weather. This may occur as early as 3 hours before actual dismissal time. All students will be served lunch before the scheduled release. In the event of an early release, all afternoon events will be cancelled.
